Fertility Enhancers

Many couples, after trying for some time to get pregnant, and failing, turn to any solution that they can find that could possibly help them, including both male and female fertility enhancers. The term “fertility enhancer” speaks for itself. These are substances, whether chemical or natural in nature, that claim to help boost fertility levels.

Chemical Enhancers:
There are a variety of drugs available that are designed to promote fertility in women. What these drugs do is promote ovulation. It is important to note that using these drugs can increase the chances of multiple births. That is, these drugs make it more likely that you could conceive twins or even triplets.

1. Clomiphene.

Clomiphine is a drug designed to help you conceive if you ovulate irregularly or not at all. It is usually taken as a pill for five days a month. It encourages your body to produce hormones that trigger ovulation.

As with many fertility drugs, the side effects can include stomach pain, nausea, mild ovarian swelling, tenderness of the breasts insomnia, headaches, irritability, weight gain and depression.

Clomiphine can also help men with a low sperm count or poor sperm quality connected to a hormonal imbalance.

2. Gonadotropins.

Gonadotropins are normally prescribed if you have already tried clomiphine and you did not succeed in conceiving. It can also be prescribed if you have a condition such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, luteal phase defects, or some other unexplained fertility problem.

Gonadotropins are administered in the form of self-injections daily for between seven to twelve days per cycle. If conception has not occurred within three to six cycles, your doctor will likely recommend something else.

Side effects of gonadotropins include fluid retention, weight gain, bloating and abdominal tenderness. You could also find that you have a hard time injecting yourself each day.

Gonadotropins increase your chance of having twins by ten to forty percent.

3. Bromocriptine.

Bromocriptine is usually prescribed if you have ovulation problems that are caused by something known as a pituitary adenoma. This is a small benign tumour located in your pituitary gland that causes an excess of prolactin to be produced. Prolactin is a hormone that reduces estrogen levels and prevents ovulation.

It is normally necessary to take bromocriptine for several months before the prolactin  levels return to normal.

Side effects include dizziness, fatigue, nausea, headaches, and diarrhoea.

Natural Enhancers:
There are many natural substances out there that are known to boost fertility. These natural fertility enhancers include water, foods containing certain elements and some herbs.

1. Water.
Water is a natural detoxifying agent. It cleanses the body removing all traces of toxins and waste and boosts the immune system. It also aids the distribution of nutrients and hormones throughout the body. Water also increases the fertile cervical mucus. This mucus aids the sperm in reaching the egg for fertilisation to occur. As well, water lengthens the life span of sperm cells waiting in the female body for the egg to be released. It is recommended that while trying to get pregnant, you drink plenty of water.

2. Food

Certain food types contain elements that your body requires for optimal fertility.

Whole grains such as brown rice, oats, and whole wheat are considered complex carbohydrates and provide your body with energy. They also contain large amounts of vitamins A and E, which your body requires for cellular reproduction, hormonal balance, and the production of healthy sperm and eggs.

Full fat dairy products are rich in calcium that is essential; for the healthy development and maintenance of the nervous system, bones and blood. In addition, research has shown that women who eat full fat fairy products are much less likely to suffer from fertility problems.

Honey is incredibly rich in minerals and amino acids, which stimulate ovarian function as well as nourish the reproductive system. It has been used as a way to enhance fertility throughout history.

Garlic contains a great variety of fertility boosting nutrients. It is an excellent source of the mineral selenium, thought to enhance male fertility and assist in preventing chromosome breakages that can be a cause of early miscarriage. Garlic also contains high amounts of vitamin B.

3. Herbs
There are several herbs that have been used for centuries to promote and enhance fertility. These include raspberry leaf, which strengthens the uterus, and red clover blossoms that are rich in vitamins and proteins that encourage ovarian functions and balancing hormonal levels.
